Assistance & Therapy Dog PreparationsAnimal Stars can prepare dogs and their owners for assessment of the Public Access Certification as an Assistance Dog or preparations for Therapy Dog Certificate. ASSISTANCE DOGS Assistance or service dogs are working animals that are specially trained to help people who are living with physical disabilities to move around, do everyday activities and tasks, and be more independent. Dogs must be certified and be able to pass a Public Access Test (PAT) to ensure they are safe and effective in a public place, public passenger vehicle, or place of accommodation, and are able to be controlled by the handler in all situations. THERAPY DOGS The primary role of a Therapy Dog is to provide companionship and emotional support to an individual, family or a group of people. Therapy Dogs can also provide support for people with mental, emotional and behavioural conditions, illnesses and physical disabilities. It’s important that the Therapy Dog is able to ignore stimuli and be calm. They must be adaptable, gentle and able to be touched without getting overly excited. |
